About Us

Joseph Thomas True Candles, located in Springfield, KY, was founded by John Mudd and Craig Stevenson of Fredericktown. 

Building on their bath and body experience and with a multitude of fragrance houses in the rolodex, in 2003 the conceptualization of Joseph Thomas began (a company name derived by combining the middle names of the founding partners). The goal of the company is to allow consumers to create the perfect environment in which to live and entertain, filling a void in the United States market for luxury home necessities that are accessible, attractive, and not overly feminine, but appeal to both genders.

They designed the products knowing that to be successful they must adhere to three basic principles:

Packaging must display beautifully, be gift-ready, and have a secondary use. 

Fragrance is a critical part of the home experience thus must be complicated but designed to be layered, in that any combination allows the buyer to create their own custom home fragrance.

They would use only the highest quality materials for the highest quality consumers. Only the most exclusive botanicals, oils, fabrics, and packaging are ever used.

The company had immediate success due to the care and dedication that was put into the manufacturing of these products along with following the three basic principles that they set forth. In 2007 John became sole owner of Joseph Thomas, but tragically passed away in December of 2008.  John was an amazing person, and a great loss to the community which loved him so much. 

Due to John’s passing, the company temporarily ceased operations until June 2009 when local couple, Gary and Gail Jarboe, purchased the company. Their love affair with Joseph Thomas True Candle products began when Gary had visited Joseph Thomas in early 2008 when purchasing a gift for his wife. Immediately they both loved the product, and this inspired their great interest in these magnificent items. When the company ceased operations, Gary and Gail felt it would be a shame if these wonderfully fragranced candles, botanicals, and atomizers were no longer on the market. After speaking with John’s family they came to an agreement to resume operations in Springfield in the same building as the couple’s already successful cultured marble business, Showplace Custom Marble. 

Since becoming owners of Joseph Thomas they have enjoyed every day of shipping these wonderful fragrance products all over the world for others to enjoy. They strive to continue to bring the highest quality gift line to people all over the globe and to carry on John’s legacy by maintaining this superb line of products.
